Nuremberg. It's a battle of wits between Rami Malik's Psychiatrist and Russell Crowe's Herman Göring set agains the backdrop of the Nuremberg trials held in 1946. Michael Shannon is the presiding prosecutor determined to hold the first of their kind war crimes trials to make the Nazis pay for what they did.

Malik's psychiatrist is dragooned into doing psychological profiles of the 20 or so prisoners to make sure they don't commit suicide and to find their weakness for trial. Göring knows he is smarter than all of them and is looking for a way out.

The movie hops between the psychological drama and historic scenes to show what happened at Nuremberg. The worst part coming during the trial when actual footage from the concentration camp is shown. It was hard to keep watching and it seemed like it went on forever.

At the end, there is a big message about Nazis never really going away which seemed directed at the situation we find ourselves in today.

Great cast if a bit preachy. No sword fights.

Anaconda! Come on. This would have killed back in the day, sitting around with the brotherhood in one of our living rooms.

It's a reimagining of the original. Jack Black and Paul Rudd want to go back and do a remake of the original movie. They are too clueless to realize they way in over their heads as the head to the Amazon with Thandie Newton and Steve Zahn to round out the cast. Oddly, Rudd plays the Jack Black role and Rudd plays the Jack Black role. It's occasionally amusing as the cast bumps into illegal gold miners. Most of movie is in the trailer with a few scattered scenes of freshness.

It's a cheesy dumb comedy. It's a good brain off flick. And I mean way off.

Yes, The Queen is out of town. Why do you ask?

I liked it. It covered quite a lot of ground, was a nice tribute to Hillel, touching, sad.

TIL: He played on the demo, but Hillel didn't play on the first RHCP album (which I thought was their best, but I learned from the doc, it has only Flea and Anthony on it).
The latest installment of the Jurassic franchise is set in the near future when dinos have reestablished themselves on earth but mostly in zoos or near the equator (which is now globally banned for travel). But the three biggest dinos might have the solution to cardiac issues, so ScarJo leads a team into the forbidden zone but not before rescuing a family that were sailing the ocean nearby and were shipwrecked near there.

Again, it’s all about the dinos. There’s like a dozen of more scenes where the dino rises behind someone quietly and that someone is so frightened that they don’t look back right away - it’s like the main franchise cliche aside from people getting chomped. And you know who’s going to survive - it’s the characters wifh the most backstory.

This adds mutate dinos - the mutant rex is like the bastard child of Snoke and a xenomorph.

Ultimately, it’s more of the same, cool dino effects and everyone is in peril of being chomped. If you like the Jurassic franchise, definitely see it because it seems to be a timeline from the first one (I’ve missed a few and can’t even say what number this installment is. It was a side eye watch while folding laundry and surfing the web on my phone. But if you’re not into it (judging by the lack of Jurassic reviews here, none of us are) not going to D00M rec tbis.

Okay, it wasn't the origin story for Jack Reacher but it should be.

Alan Ritchson promises to join the rangers after a terrible experience in Afghanistan. Basically, that is all he wants to do. Fulfill his promise. He doesn't want to hang with the guys. He doesn't leadership. He wants to do the stuff, get the patch, and leave. Most of the first third of the movie is him going through Ranger training school and all those problems. To graduate they have to do the death march (Stupid name) It's during the death march that the fun things happen. There are some crazy set pieces that make you wince from the over amped sound effects. Lots of cringe worthy blood shed. Lots of impossible things to do that go awry. It was plenty of fun and has been noted many times, I know fun.

The last ten minutes was all pretty lame. The valuable lesson is learned. They set up maybe a sequel or an ongoing series. I really can't watch Dennis Quaid any more and he was a big part of the ending. I suggest turning the movie off maybe after the final big explosion.

Like Dhurandhar https://www.brotherhoodofdoom.com/doomFo...p?tid=8755 this is another intensily ultravi tollywood film. I watched it because it had a martial reference. The protag is an Indian raised in Japan and trained as a samurai. The yakuza kills all the surviving samurai but him. He befriends a Bombay port mogul on his journey back to India, and becomes his protector.

OG is dubbed an incarnation of Kalki - the restorer of dharma. What he is here is invincible. He cuts through gangs with his katana, goes full auto, and kills hundreds of thugs throughout the film, blowing stuff up, setting places on fire, literally toppling skyscrapers and parrying bullets. Insane ridiculous action, all in slomo wifh a driving edm beat and sanguineous sprays.

I don’t know what happened to Indian film. The action used to be lame. Now it’s absurdly brutal and bloody, relentless and merciless. Kids get shot in the back. Lovers get murdered. Failed henchmen are popped of by their bosses unflinchingly. So ruthless. Lots of decapitations and arm lopping off.

I have two fav scenes that capture the ultravi

1. OG is cutting down gangsters and casually tucks his katana under his chin mid-fight to straighten his belt.
2. OG kicks a gang leader on to an exploding car which blows him into the air. OG leaps to meet him midair and decapitates him, all in glorious slo-mo.

This film is nuts. The plot is twisty and there are a lot of characters. 2 1/2 hours of movie gives a lot of time, except that all the action is all in dramatic slo-mo.

And this is just the beginning - it sets up part 2. This is the 2nd installment in the Sujeeth cinematic universe - the first is Saaho (2019) which I might have to watch. Sujeeth is the writer/director.

There’s a father/daughter arc, and of course, the daughter is named Taara (with 3 As).

And yes, 2 tollywood dance numbers.

Pawan Kalyan plays OG and I didn’t find him leading action star material at all. He was uncharismatic and reminded me of an Indian Charlie Day.

Not D00M reccomended unless you just need a massive ultravi fix.

Billed as the biggest grossing Hindi film ever, this was surprisingly brutal for Bollywood. There action is super sanguineous with several graphic skull crushes and some absolutely sadistic torture, plus a few blown up bodies sending a spray of blood and flesh. Shocking. And then there’s a rocking wedding dance scene to remind thst this is Bollywood after all.

It’s a deep cover tale. An Indian penetrates a major Pakistani terrorist gang through grit and manipulation. It’s not one of those hero-won’t-kill-while-maintaining-his-cover. Hamza kills quickly and coldly, calculating all the way. Ranveer Singh is the lead and he’s yoked to the gills, with sultry burning eyes and long flowing hair that fans dramatically for those slo-mo kills. As he rises to power, the backstabbing is constant.

His gang supplies the weapons for the real 26/11 Mumbai terrorist attacks, which hit us hard because we spent time in Mumbai in ‘97, our epic India trip. We visited the Taj hotel. The movie pauses to play actual recordings of the terrorists talking about killing everyone. It’s chilling.

There’s some spectacular cinematography of the Pakistan desert and dense urban sprawl, plus some huge crowd scenes (surely cgi enhanced but I couldn’t see the seam - it was very convincing). Crazy car chases, full auto fire fights where no one can hit anyone despite their targets being wide open, some big cgi explosions, the hero almost gets anally raped in the beginning, and a torture victim has his face and body pierced with dozens of big fish hooks - the 2+ dozen in his face get ripped out. Thst scene reminded me of Ichi the Killer in its unabashed sadism.

Then there’s the love interest, Yalina, played by Sara Arjun, who is hypnotically gorgeuos, and thst awesome wedding dance.

This was onlu part 1. Part 2 comes out soon.

Somewhat D00M recommended but only if you’ve seen a dozen of so Bollywood films already. This isn’t a good one to start with; it’s extreme ultravi needs to be seen in contrast to most of the genre. The ultravi is hardcore, ridiculously so.

Damon and Affleck (the elder) are at it again. They’re on a special team and their boss gets murdered in the beginning. It opens with all the other team members getting interviewed as part of the investigation, but quickly turns to a last minute, off the clock bust from an anonymous tip. Is Damon, the new boss, a dirty cop? Do he and Affleck hate each other? Oh, the twists and turns…

It was watchable, if not all that believable. Not great, not bad.

This is not at all what I expected. It’s a comedy centered around the accidental killing of a gang leader by Rita’s mom when he accidentally walks into the wrong house after ripping bong hits in his car before meeting a prostitute that was setting him up to be killing by some hitmen. It opens with a shidi r and a sworn vengeance upon a decapitated head (like what else would be decapitated?) The humor is wacky quirky and from the start, it’s states that it’s all about karma. But it doesn’t fall into place until the very end. There’s no dancing or singing. There are a lot of cold blooded shootings. Almost everyone is shot dead suddenly when they are unarmed. There’s a lot of double crossing. It’s twisty with way too many coincidences, but karma’s like that sometimes. I enjoyed it, although I did make my own intermission halfway through because it needed one.

Not D00M recommended. You gotta be into Bollywood to enjoy this.

This begins as a cutesy educational farce. The actors are cells within a human body. We follow a newly born red blood cell as she embarks on her job of oxygen delivery. She meets a white blood cell, the T cells, and a NT cell, and they fight off various diseases that are straight out of tokusatsu villains with outrageous costumes, tentacles, scorpion stingers and cackling laughs.

We meet the humans - a rather & daughter. It’s the cells in the daughter’s body that were following; when she interacts with her crush, the cells get an adrenaline dump that’s like a Brazilian edm dace party.

Then we meet the cells in the father’s body: he drinks and eats poorly, and his body is streets clogged with cholesterol trash. His liver is like a strip club and when he drinks, it rains alcohol. There’s an act where he gets the runs from bad food and we get a view of his struggles trying to find a place to shit from inside the anus where brown turd humans try to fight their way out.

Then suddenly it takes an extremely dark and everything changes. It gets very serious and emotional.

This film is a crazy mind trip. It’s very entertaining but it’s a show that only Japan can do. D00M recommended.

Klaus is another attempt to explain the Santa Claus story starring Jason Schwartzman, J.K. Simmons, and Norm McDonald. It starts with a coddled son of the postmaster general being exiled to the worst town in the country to take up the post as postman until he delivers 6000 letters. The town is having none of it. They have problems of their own. But the movie covers all the bases of sending letters to Santa, being good or naughty and even the sleigh flying. Some of it was funny. Some of it was charming. A good addition to the Christmas movie canon. It was up for the Oscar the year it was released.

I haven't seen any of the series (well, maybe the very first episode, but that was very long ago). Luther is a gritty detective that skirts the law I favor of justice. he's very Batman like...in this one, he's getting close to a serial murder (played by Alan Sorkin), so he leaks Luther's secrets to the press and Luther ends up in prison and the serial murderer can continue scheming, except that Luther escapes and while trying to stay ahead of the police that are trying to recapture him, he's also trying to help them solve the case and prevent the psycho from killing too many people.

It's a bit unbelievable, and I think sorkin is over-acting, but Idris Elba is still good. I think he just got knighted. Rumors were that he was in the running for the next 007 awhile back. From this and other work he's done, I think he could have done that really well.
