Jackson cleans up a crime scene in a mansion but forgets to return the key. When he returns the next day the owner of the house doesn't know what he is talking about. There has been no crime committed at this house. And off we go. Jackson needs to find out what is going on because he is becoming the prime suspect in the disappearance of a cop who could hold the key to proving all the corruption in the local police force..

The film is okay but over directed. Why do a close-up when you can do a super close-up? Every scene is broken down into a million close-up shots of actions. Here is the key. Here is the key in the lock. Here is the key turning from a different angle. Let's make coffee. This is the filter. These are drips of water. It becomes intrusive after awhile.

Finally, in the entire film, Jackson never says motherfucker. Not once. His character is very subdued and passive. Not your usual Jackson fare.]]>

This was a Chinese new year release that got good buzz. It’s part of the new wave Sci fi coming out of PRC like Three Body Problem. This is a bit more goofy, until it gets serious. A spaceship on a long term colonization mission are in hyper sleep, aided by an ai dream scape to keep their brains active. But something goes awry on the ship and a goofy tech gets waken. Coming to Netflix

This was delightful. Solid Indian values about family and community, about helping strangers in need, all neatly tucked into some outrageous ultravi.

Tollywood ultravi is fascinating. It’s a lot of villain flying through the air in slo Mo and crashing into stuff, all set to trumpeting Indian beats. This even had rap and thrash metal shout singing in it. The physics are ridiculous and the punches and kicks are wild but not overly impactful, but it still works. The crazy hits are clever. It’s like watching car crashes in slomo set to Bhangra beats.

The lead is Arjun who’s been in over 100 action films. He basically scowls stoically and kick a lotta ass. He’s merciless. When he has tied up villains, he’ll cut their throats with a sword. His wife and daughter are both played by dancers. They can move well but lack impact. There’s something satisfying about watching ruffians try to manhandle them, and then they toss them like throw pillows.

The plot is absurd - they get on the outs with a gang trying to drill for a major gem worth a gazillion but the drilling will cause an avalanche that will wipe out a village and they don’t know the family are karate masters. As they get more entangled and start losing goons, they figure it out. There’s this marked bill that gets lost which is the key to a truck full of money and everyone is after it. Let the ultravi fly!

Netflix has this listed for like 2+ hours but it’s only like an hour and a half. Then the Netflix like or not button appears, then it skips back an hour to fill the time. Weird. I would’ve totally watched this at 2x speed if Netflix still offered that. So much slo mo.

There are a few pockets of survivors including an island off Scotland where people are still surviving. They can cross back to the mainland via a causeway that only appears at low tide. This was bad, epically bad. Should have been on the Hallmark channel. There were a few tepidly funny scenes but not many. The graphic nudity is an up close showing of a birth. At no time did I feel involved in the characters or actually believe they were in love with each other.

Malik's psychiatrist is dragooned into doing psychological profiles of the 20 or so prisoners to make sure they don't commit suicide and to find their weakness for trial. Göring knows he is smarter than all of them and is looking for a way out.

The movie hops between the psychological drama and historic scenes to show what happened at Nuremberg. The worst part coming during the trial when actual footage from the concentration camp is shown. It was hard to keep watching and it seemed like it went on forever.

At the end, there is a big message about Nazis never really going away which seemed directed at the situation we find ourselves in today.

Great cast if a bit preachy. No sword fights.]]>

I liked it. It covered quite a lot of ground, was a nice tribute to Hillel, touching, sad.

TIL: He played on the demo, but Hillel didn't play on the first RHCP album (which I thought was their best, but I learned from the doc, it has only Flea and Anthony on it).

The latest installment of the Jurassic franchise is set in the near future when dinos have reestablished themselves on earth but mostly in zoos or near the equator (which is now globally banned for travel). But the three biggest dinos might have the solution to cardiac issues, so ScarJo leads a team into the forbidden zone but not before rescuing a family that were sailing the ocean nearby and were shipwrecked near there.

Again, it’s all about the dinos. There’s like a dozen of more scenes where the dino rises behind someone quietly and that someone is so frightened that they don’t look back right away - it’s like the main franchise cliche aside from people getting chomped. And you know who’s going to survive - it’s the characters wifh the most backstory.

This adds mutate dinos - the mutant rex is like the bastard child of Snoke and a xenomorph.

Ultimately, it’s more of the same, cool dino effects and everyone is in peril of being chomped. If you like the Jurassic franchise, definitely see it because it seems to be a timeline from the first one (I’ve missed a few and can’t even say what number this installment is. It was a side eye watch while folding laundry and surfing the web on my phone. Alan Ritchson promises to join the rangers after a terrible experience in Afghanistan. Basically, that is all he wants to do. Fulfill his promise. He doesn't want to hang with the guys. He doesn't leadership. He wants to do the stuff, get the patch, and leave. Most of the first third of the movie is him going through Ranger training school and all those problems. To graduate they have to do the death march (Stupid name) It's during the death march that the fun things happen. There are some crazy set pieces that make you wince from the over amped sound effects. Lots of cringe worthy blood shed. Lots of impossible things to do that go awry. It was plenty of fun and has been noted many times, I know fun.

The last ten minutes was all pretty lame. The valuable lesson is learned. They set up maybe a sequel or an ongoing series. I really can't watch Dennis Quaid any more and he was a big part of the ending. I suggest turning the movie off maybe after the final big explosion.]]>

The protag is an Indian raised in Japan and trained as a samurai. The yakuza kills all the surviving samurai but him. He befriends a Bombay port mogul on his journey back to India, and becomes his protector.

OG is dubbed an incarnation of Kalki - the restorer of dharma. What he is here is invincible. He cuts through gangs with his katana, goes full auto, and kills hundreds of thugs throughout the film, blowing stuff up, setting places on fire, literally toppling skyscrapers and parrying bullets. Insane ridiculous action, all in slomo wifh a driving edm beat and sanguineous sprays.

I don’t know what happened to Indian film. The action used to be lame. Now it’s absurdly brutal and bloody, relentless and merciless. Kids get shot in the back. Lovers get murdered. Failed henchmen are popped of by their bosses unflinchingly. So ruthless. Lots of decapitations and arm lopping off.

I have two fav scenes that capture the ultravi

1. OG is cutting down gangsters and casually tucks his katana under his chin mid-fight to straighten his belt.
2. OG kicks a gang leader on to an exploding car which blows him into the air. OG leaps to meet him midair and decapitates him, all in glorious slo-mo.

This film is nuts. The plot is twisty and there are a lot of characters. 2 1/2 hours of movie gives a lot of time, except that all the action is all in dramatic slo-mo.

And this is just the beginning - it sets up part 2. This is the 2nd installment in the Sujeeth cinematic universe - the first is Saaho (2019) which I might have to watch. Sujeeth is the writer/director.

There’s a father/daughter arc, and of course, the daughter is named Taara (with 3 As).

And yes, 2 tollywood dance numbers.

Pawan Kalyan plays OG and I didn’t find him leading action star material at all. He was uncharismatic and reminded me of an Indian Charlie Day.

I don’t know what happened to Indian film. The action used to be lame. Now it’s absurdly brutal and bloody, relentless and merciless. Kids get shot in the back. Lovers get murdered. Failed henchmen are popped of by their bosses unflinchingly. So ruthless. Lots of decapitations and arm lopping off.

I have two fav scenes that capture the ultravi

1. OG is cutting down gangsters and casually tucks his katana under his chin mid-fight to straighten his belt.
2. OG kicks a gang leader on to an exploding car which blows him into the air. OG leaps to meet him midair and decapitates him, all in glorious slo-mo.

This film is nuts. The plot is twisty and there are a lot of characters. 2 1/2 hours of movie gives a lot of time, except that all the action is all in dramatic slo-mo.

And this is just the beginning - it sets up part 2. This is the 2nd installment in the Sujeeth cinematic universe - the first is Saaho (2019) which I might have to watch. Sujeeth is the writer/director.

There’s a father/daughter arc, and of course, the daughter is named Taara (with 3 As).

And yes, 2 tollywood dance numbers.

Pawan Kalyan plays OG and I didn’t find him leading action star material at all. He was uncharismatic and reminded me of an Indian Charlie Day.
