Oscar Mayer announces today the “Wienie 500” – a first-of-its-kind spectacle where the fleet of Wienermobiles will haul buns to the legendary Indianapolis Motor Speedway for a race unlike any other. Ahead of this year’s Indianapolis 500, which draws more than 330,000 fans who consume nearly 30,000 hot dogs, Oscar Mayer’s beloved Hotdoggers will make their racing debut on the very same track as the pros. The race will be streamed live on Friday, May 23 at 2 p.m. ET on the FOX Sports app and across @INDYCARonFOX social accounts, and fans can catch highlights from the race during Sunday’s Indy 500 pre-race show on FOX.

The Wienie 500 will also mark the first “meat-up” of all six Wienermobiles in over a decade and the first competitive race for the fleet, each sporting an all-new look. Each Wienermobile will represent a different regional dog, including the Chi Dog (Midwest), New York Dog (East), Slaw Dog (Southeast), Sonoran Dog (Southwest), Chili Dog (South) and Seattle Dog (Northwest). From custom Hotdogger racing suits to a trophy presentation in the ‘Wiener’s Circle’, complete with a condiment spray and hot dog for the wiener’s enjoyment, every moment of the race is designed to spark smiles, serving up a delightful racing event only Oscar Mayer can.

Since its introduction several months ago, Evil Malört has been terrorizing and hypnotizing the bar scene of Western Massachusetts. According to Belden, who works at Northampton’s Tellus & the Satellite Bar, “People see it on the backbar, [and] they’re like, ‘What is that? What is that gonna do to me?’” 

Nobody has responded with as much perverse curiosity as fellow bartenders.

The manager of Northampton’s Green Room, Anthony Brocatto, traces notes of limestone, soil and acid reflux in the spirit, or, as they put it: “Grandma’s furniture (when she still smoked).” 

Claire Barclay, former district sales manager of CH Distillery and Jeppson’s Malört, is a longtime fan of the funky vegetal notes of the spirit. After a recent tasting, she zeroed in on the overwhelmingly fatty palate and briny spice of Belden’s creation, describing the experience as akin to “drowning in the Atlantic after taking a shot of Malört while chewing on a jalapeño.” A friend of Belden’s, meanwhile, has described it as “grassy soy sauce, with a sting to it.”

For Belden, the response is vindicating. Facing a rut of ennui after managing bars and cocktail programs for most of his career, he wanted to reignite his passion with experimental, high-concept recipes. Evil Malört offered an odd opportunity.

“I was pushing the boundaries of what people will put in their mouth, and I was pushing the boundaries of what will make my friends say, ‘I’m not your friend anymore,’” he recalls. 
To those brave and curious enough to sample Evil Malört, Belden offers a simple, but effective, reassurance: “It’s not going to kill you. It’s specifically designed not to do that.”

A small California bakery is left picking up the pieces after Tesla unexpectedly canceled a 4,000 pie order at the last minute.

SAN JOSE, Calif. (Gray News) - A small California bakery is out thousands of dollars after Tesla unexpectedly canceled a 4,000 pie order at the last minute.
Voahangy Rasetarinera, who owns Giving Pies in San Jose, said the bakery got a last-minute order on Valentine’s Day from Tesla, the electric car company co-owned by Elon Musk. 

Rasetarinera told KTVU that Tesla contacted her to order 2,000 mini pies for about $6,000, with half to be delivered on Tuesday and the other half on Thursday. According to the owner, that’s short notice for the business; but she agreed. 

After not hearing back, she reached out again and sent the invoice multiple times to multiple people. The company apologized for the delayed payment and asked to double the order to 4,000 pies, KRON4 reported.

“So I contacted my staff, and they’re like ‘Yes, we can work on Saturday, on Sunday, on Monday. We can get it done. No problem,’” she said.
Raseterinera said she and her staff got to work. However, after submitting a new invoice, she never received the payment.

The next day, the Tesla representative canceled the order, telling the owner that “it, unfortunately, sounds like we will be changing plans and will not be needing this order.”

Frustrated and angry, she posted about her experience. In an Instagram post, she said she turned down other catering gigs and purchased supplies to prepare.
Tesla saw the post and reached out. They offered to find a way to still buy pies from her by catering for other events. However, they have yet to approve the request.

When the Chernobyl nuclear plant near Pripyat, Ukraine, suffered the world's worst nuclear meltdown in 1986, we thought that entire area would never be habitable again. You still can't live there, officially, but nature has displayed an amazing recovery in the almost forty years since the disaster. Trees and other plants grow, and wildlife has moved in to the places people used to live and work. The boar on ATOMIK bottles is an example of a thriving population in the Exclusion Zone. The grains used in ATOMIK show some radioactivity, but once they are distilled, that radioactivity is gone.  

The real story is the Chernobyl Spirit Company, whose goal is to show the area's recovery and to help support those affected by the meltdown and Ukrainians affected by the war. The company was founded by a group of unsalaried scientists. The beloved Klondike product, packaged ice cream in a taco-shaped cone, has been discontinued. 
“Over the past 2 years, we have experienced an unprecedented spike in demand across our portfolio and have had to make very tough decisions to ensure availability of our full portfolio nationwide,” a Klondike Brand representative told CNN Business in an email, adding “we know this may be very disappointing.” 

You could possibly still find Choco Tacos around as sellers run through their inventory, the representative said. 
During the pandemic, it became common for companies to slim down their portfolios to help meet demand for their most popular items. But even less popular products have devoted fans who are upset by the decisions. 

“Choco Taco has fallen,” one Twitter user declared. “They always take the best things away from us,” another mused. Others berated Klondike for the decision. 

The Choco Taco was born in the early 1980s, according to a 2016 article in Eater. At first it was available mostly through ice cream trucks. Eventually, Unilever, which now owns Klondike, began to distribute the product more widely.
Ice cream in a waffle cone with toppings is not all that innovative. But ice cream in a taco shell — that was a game changer, according to inventor Alan Drazen. 

“When you eat a sugar cone, you generally eat the nuts, chocolate, and ice cream on the top,” Drazen told Eater. “With the Choco Taco you’re getting the ice cream, cone, nuts, and chocolate with just about every bite.” 

For many, the Choco Taco conjures long-ago memories of biting into a cold, sweet treat on a hot summer’s day. Others may have more recent memories, especially because Taco Bell -— which used to sell the product years ago — brought it back to some stores for a limited time earlier this year. 

Not all hope is lost, however. Some notable fans are already trying to figure out ways to resurrect the Choco Taco. 
“I’d like to buy the rights to your Choco Taco and keep it from melting away from future generations’ childhoods,” Reddit cofounder Alexis Ohanian tweeted at Unilever, Klondike’s parent company. Patrick Shriver responded that he’d “go in on this.”
