Deep Cover - Drunk Monk - 06-14-2025

This was entertaining. Full confession - I really like both Howard & Bloom and they both deliver here. Howard is an improv coach. Bloom is an over the top method actor wannabe. And rounding out the trio is Mohammed, a socially awkward IT guy. Bean is a cop who tasks them to go undercover for a simple buy but things escalate quickly. Ian McShane is a jenga-playing kingpin. It’s all in good fun as the trio gets deeper into trouble with every misstep. An enjoyable park your brain outside frolic. Lightweight yet well paced and even got a snicker or two. Nothing offensive or gory. A pleasant police farce.

D00M recommended.

Mohammed starred on Ted Lasso. I've been on the fence about this. Now, that I've seen your glowing review I know to avoid it like the plague (I kid. Might catch it tonight)

I wouldn’t say that was ‘glowing’ - I enjoyed it but it didn’t glow. It was just an enjoyable way to spend an hour and a half.

I was thinking Mohammed was in Harry Potter but you’re right. I was mistaken.

In retrospect what I liked about this film is that it passed the Bechdal with flying colors. Howard’s character is strong, smart and independent (there is a romance angle but with another character and it’s sweet & funny).

I hate this when this happens. I agree with DM. This was a well done romp. I really liked Bloom as Roach. Mohammed does what he always does. Of the three, I thought he could have had more of a journey.

But I liked. It was a good diversion, especially in light of what occurred last night. I needed to park my brain. You'll see how deep I parked my brain in my next review.

It's very disconcerting.
