This is magnificently bad, even worse than it looks in the trailer. The annoying part is there’s almost a kernel of a good idea. And the fights are interesting in that it’s akin to acrobatic jujitsu - the wushujujitsu. The idea starts when a blogger goes viral with the idea of this fight for faith. Only there’s no faiths - they are all made up sci-fi names. Then there’s this one fighter that rises quickly up to the finals from nowhere - nope, he’s been genetically engineered by a science led group of atheists. The lead kid is long and can move. He delivers some fresh style and all the opponents are practitioners. No one here can act tho. Not a one. There’s a flamboyant gay MC that Fifth Element would like back. There’s PPOs, bodyguards to the fighters that are like cops. The dialog is painfully overwritten, and just when you wonder if it’s going to get preachy, it backs off or loses its train of thought. I kept watching in hopes that it might take some outrageously absurd turn to redeem it and then it does by ending abruptly. The kid makes it into the finals and then ends, assuming that a sequel gets made. That’s a big assumption. Not even a cliffhanger. It just ends. That’s not an ending. WTH?
