Like a Dragon: Yakuza - Drunk Monk - 11-11-2024 (10-02-2024, 08:34 PM)Drunk Monk Wrote: Like a Dragon: Yakuza This got a lot of buzz at SDCC and I was bummed I missed the panel. It’s based on a video game, which is typically bad. E1 sets up the main characters’ back story - 4 orphan young adults stage a heist but it’s from the yakuza. Turns out their guardian is ex-yakuza, and he pleads for them when they inevitably get caught. The main protag wants to be the greatest fighter of the yakuza clan. So far, it’s unimpressive. Fights and action are middling, characters unengaging, dreary atmosphere but maybe that works. I’m no longer regretting missing that panel (not that I regretted it earlier - it was low hanging fruit that I failed to grab). Another story that moves back and forth through time too much. I’ll probably watch more but it needs to impress me more to see it through. 6 45 min eps. It’s another foreign series where the subs don’t match the English, reminding me again how tricky translation can be. RE: Like a Dragon: Yakuza - Drunk Monk - 11-15-2024 I swapped out the language for the original Japanese and I liked it more. Still, not a lot happens I. This show. Or maybe it’s too much talky talk and not much action. Like e1, there’s a lot of going back and forth thru time and frankly I’m lost. Still not totally engaged but I’ll give it another shot. RE: Like a Dragon: Yakuza - Drunk Monk - 11-24-2024 Got about halfway thru e3 and realized I was looking at my phone more then this show because I was so disengaged. I’m bailing. |
