Skeleton Crew (2024) - Greg - 08-10-2024 Skeleton Crew. Dec 3. Looks like it is made for the younger set. RE: Skeleton Crew (2024) - Drunk Monk - 11-01-2024 RE: Skeleton Crew (2024) - Drunk Monk - 12-02-2024 As I feared, this is a Star Wars live action version of Star Trek Prodigy, with a sprinkling of the Goonies. The first two eps introduce 4 annoying kids and their pirate droid. I was amused by the idea of a middle class suburb in a galaxy far far away, but the rest is silly. Tomboy gal, punk kid, elephant kid, gal with Geordi air filter goggles. At least with the Young Jedi, we were comforted in the knowledge that Ani would slice them to ribbons someday. This is just painful so far but ep 3 will introduce an adult so maybe it’ll improve. RE: Skeleton Crew (2024) - Greg - 12-03-2024 Goddamn Star Trek fanboy harshing on Star Wars, as they do. I kind of like it. I thought the opening attack was epic and probably should have been seen on the big screen. Suburban Star Wars is weird. Yes, the characters and their tropes have been done a million times. It did feel like Spielberg directed this back in the late 1980s/early 1990s. I enjoyed it. I can't guess for the life of me who Jude Law played in the first episode. It's a puzzle. RE: Skeleton Crew (2024) - Drunk Monk - 12-03-2024 Maybe you'd like Prodigy - http://www.brotherhoodofdoom.com/doomForum/showthread.php?tid=5582 It did get better at the end. And yes, I will still watch this, despite my reservations. I'm still annoyed that they cancelled the Acolyte. RE: Skeleton Crew (2024) - Greg - 12-08-2024 Ep02 was much better. Lots of aliens. Lots of shooting. I do have one big question about the jail scene. I am entertained by the children. RE: Skeleton Crew (2024) - Greg - 12-11-2024 Ep03 More adventure. They answered the biggest question I had about the jail cells right off the bat. The show keeps moving. They always go for the action. I realized Nick Frost is playing the Droid. There is good story telling and world building. You are in the world of Star Wars, but this is its own thing. RE: Skeleton Crew (2024) - Drunk Monk - 12-12-2024 E3 Meh. Still not doing it for me. I liked the bubble transport ships. The owl map keeper was annoying. The kids are too formulaic - strong gal, punk egotistical boy, intelligent nerd girl, comic alien. It’s almost exactly the Prodigy equation, which is doing a lot to ruin this for me. Don’t even get me started on the nerd girl model minority stereotype they’re playing - Star Wars has always had problems with Asian roles. I do like Jude and the is he or isn’t he Jedi arc. Kinda glad I’m not attached because I’m losing D+ at the end of the month. Been coattailing on Tara’s account and she’s letting it go. RE: Skeleton Crew (2024) - Drunk Monk - 12-18-2024 E4 Still meh. The notion that there’s lots of At planets is intriguing. Designed by the empire? And if the treasure of At Attin is suburban peace, well, I reject that. This is supposed to be Star WARS, not Star Peace. This show needs some lightsaber duels. RE: Skeleton Crew (2024) - Greg - 12-20-2024 Wow. That was a terrible episode. The Daniels really let the side down. We definitely need more pirate robot. RE: Skeleton Crew (2024) - Greg - 12-25-2024 Ep05 was better. Fun on the pleasure planet. One bit i of light saber action. RE: Skeleton Crew (2024) - Drunk Monk - 12-25-2024 The 'pleasure planet' is yet another poach from Star Trek - Risa has been part of canon there since S3 (1990 earth). But kudos for the HP factor - Rowena! Plus the light saber scene was the best since Mando cut himself with the Dark Saber. Finally, a lightsaber. Honestly, I'm only into Star Wars for the Lightsabers now. Twas a decent ep and the first one to have me eager for the next one. But we're unsubscribing soon - not sure I'll get to it. Alas. RE: Skeleton Crew (2024) - Greg - 01-01-2025 Escape from the Pleasure Planet. Still better than the Daniels episode despite having Bryce Dallas at the helm. These episodes are much too short. I was getting very invested when they faded to black. I was thinking of cancelling but now I need to know how this ends. Dammit. RE: Skeleton Crew (2024) - Drunk Monk - 01-01-2025 Tara didn’t cancel her D+ so we have another month. So I’ll see the end. And I can describe it here in Scapino-esque-spoiler detail if you like. RE: Skeleton Crew (2024) - Greg - 01-09-2025 Still watching. This was a pretty good episode, too, as the kids find their way back to At-Atten. But Jude Law is ahead of them. There is even a bit of lightsaber action. |
