Emily in Paris - Drunk Monk - 04-15-2022

Lily Collins ends up as a marketing agent in Paris but doesn’t speak French. 2 seasons, 10 20+min eps each. I just binged s1 in one go. It was very distracting which is what I crave now.

It’s cute and mildly funny with gratuitous Paris shots - plenty of ‘we were there’ moments. Emily rapidly becomes an IG influencer, and faces all sorts of promotional catastrophes but always redeems herself. And she has lots of sex.it’s a fashion show.

Being a publicist in some way for most of my career (and now more so than ever) some of the leaps she makes bug me a bit. It reminds me of Bewitched in how Darren was an ad man. But this is a rim com, not a documentary so it doesn’t bug me much. The whole influencer thing bugs me more but that’s more a reflection of society

I’ll prolly watch s2.

Not D00M recommended.

The ever popular Rim-Com genre!

I'm guessing that's porn. It has to be porn.

I should be nicer to you during your travails. I really should.

I revel in the freedom to misspell here. I don’t have that opportunity with most of my other writing. Among my many Covid casualties was an editor for several of my platforms. Plus I often post from my iPhone which has a kind of its own.

A very kind of it's own!

Case & point…

RE: Emily in Paris - Drunk Monk - 04-16-2022

S2e4 has Mindy busking in front of a fountain that was right down the street from the first hotel we stayed at. I remember it well and even took some pix that are on my fb album. It was spectacular dual griffons and archangel Michael with a sword.

S2e8: A sword. Nice.

S2 binged. That was charming. Loved the fashion. Such a silly soap opera. For a moment, I thought Lily was positioned to be this gen’s Audrey Hepburn but upon reflection, that’s not it at all. It’s more like Sex in the City with only one gal - not that I ever watched SitC so I don’t really have the faintest idea what I’m saying.

Luc was my fav character. Mindy was interesting too. This show must’ve been underwritten by IG

Ended on a cliffhanger but it’s pretty obvious where it’ll go for s3.

I know, I know, not the usually DM fare, but I’m not in my usual state of mind.

Not D00M recommended..

There is a lot of hate for this show on the Inter-Webs.

It served as a good distraction. It’s cheesy and such a soap opera, but I do love Paris and it shows the city off well. Right now, anything that takes my mind off my current crises is welcome.

Plus you are putting money in Lilly Collins pocket who has to support her father now that he can no longer drum.

RE: Emily in Paris - Drunk Monk - 04-17-2022

I waffle about Lily. I think the last time I saw her was in Okja and she struck me as mediocre. This is a major vehicle for her (she produced it) and like the show, it almost feels like an excuse to be in Paris for a while and who blames her for that? While she is the centerpiece, it’s the supporting cast that wins me over here, especially Luc who is this caricature Frenchman amidst mostly female, gay or boy toy characters, the spot of yang in the yin paisley. It’s total eye candy because paris + outrageous fashion (Emily’s outfits are over the top as are many of the supporting gay characters - no way she could afford that). There’s tons of plot holes - the total absence of any Covid signs in something set now is glaring and a relief.

Like I said, NOT D00M recommended. It’s just where I escaped to over the last two nights and lived to tell. My reviews should be read with even more grains of salts that usual right now.

So why didn’t you start this thread. Do I have to do everything around here?

Merde…

Since we are all just aspects of your fervent imagination, the answer is yes.
