Silk - Drunk Monk - 05-30-2021 This is a BBC series that ran for 3 seasons in 2011 to 2014. It's about a team of barristers, so a legal drama. We were only half watching it, mostly for the lead actress, Maxine Peake, who nails her character. But come S1e4 and there was a major twist - several actually - and now we're hooked. Also stars Tom Hughes from Red Joan & Victoria, as well as Natalie Dormer from GoT. I thought I recognized the writer, as well as a few other actors, but it turns out I was mistaken. S1e4 addresses racism and is astonishingly spot on for 2011. It's a great episode, but the twists won't have any impact without the set up in the previous 3 episodes. I hope they can sustain the momentum and that e4 wasn't just a one-off fluke. On the downside find the soundtrack annoyingly loud and repetitive, and have taken to wiggling our feet mockingly when it comes on. British law is weird. I'm not following how the trials work exactly. But it's entertaining nonetheless. The law office drama is tense and competitive, and makes for good TV. No sword fights. Not particularly DOOM recommended so far. RE: Silk - Drunk Monk - 06-04-2021 Well dang. That was a weird finale. WTH? Did NOT see that coming. Enjoyable series overall. Costello always wins in court but often loses with the aftermath. Stacy watched all of it. I watched maybe 2/3rds once I subtract the dozing off bits (not due to the show, more due to my penchant for naps). HP factor of at least 1 (Filch) but there may have been more. No sword fights ever. Only recommended for DOOMers who like Brit courtroom dramas. |
