The Comey Rule (Showtime 2020) - Greg - 10-19-2020 Jeff Daniels plays FBI Director James Comey in the story about Hillary's email and his downfall at the hands of Trump. This two part, four hour movie was your nightmares brought to life. It's one thing to hear about the stories second hand, it's quite another to see them acted out. The whole thing was deeply unsettling. The first part covers everything in the run up to the 2016 election. The second part is what happens after the election between Trump and Comey and deals with the fallout of Comey's firing. Especially odd is how Epstein is a secondary villain in the piece. If you pay attention to the news, there is nothing new here. Or maybe you kind of know the stories, but this movie adds a lot of details. It's all ugly. And Brendan Gleason does a devastating Trump. All the quirks and the twitches and the mannerisms. It's horrifying. At first I didn't think they were going to show Trump at all because they just alluded to him in the first half. But then Brendan appears in all his sweaty glory. It's a great recap on what happened. It does show Comey in a better light by giving his motivations for what happened about the emails. He contends he was in a no win situation the minute they found out about the leaked emails. Since, it is told from his point of view, obviously he's going to be the hero of the piece. Hard to recommend but it is very well done. |
