The Grammys 2020 - Greg - 01-28-2020
I watch all the big award shows. It's part of my training. The Queen does not understand.
I taped it to watch later. I'm basically fast forwarding to all the musical numbers because I don't really care who won. I would just like to see performances. The Grammy obliges.
Lizzo started the show. She's like the African American version of Adele with a lot of Nikki Minaj throw in and she plays the flute. I had Ian Anderson flashbacks.
The Grammy's was held at the Staple Center on the day Kobe died, so there were lots of tributes to him including by host Alicia Keyes. It's like they did a pre-opening where they did a Kobe tribute and then the next number was the actual opener where Keyes did a song about who was at the Grammys that night.
I'm about halfway through the broadcast and I've already seen The Jonas Brothers, Ariana Grande (Couldn't understand a word she sang), Camilla Cabello who sang a song about her father to her father who was sitting in the front row. Aerosmith and Run-DMC did walk this way. Aerosmith did look old but they did get the crowd jumping. Tyler the Creator I did not understand.
The last song I saw was Little Nas X who did his ubiquitous 'Old Town Road' They had a revolving stage so he could sing the multitude of the remixes he did with various other artists. The weirdest was a massive chroma-green skull in a cowboy hat set. I shouldn't have gone to bed afterward because that song is still echoing in my head.

I didn't tune in but I watched Demi Lovato's performance this morning. I've been following her since she began training in MMA. She was dating Luke Rockhold (great name for an MMA champ, right). He was a UFC middleweight champ and the brother of Tara's volleyball coach in high school. I never met Luke though.
I read about FK Twig's issues because the Grammy's only asked her to pole dance as a back-up and not a singer. I've been keeping tabs on her because she's wushu trained, and Tara's friend got her CD when we went up to SF over the holidays.
It's all about the martial stuff and connections to me personally.

That must have been during Usher's salute to Prince. She was quite the pole dancer. The whole Prince tribute was very good. I will be tuning into the full show.

Yeah she bailed. She was insulted. She’s more than just a pole dancer.
On a peripheral note, Tara promised she wouldn’t take up pole dancing because I requested that a long time ago. I’m hoping to change that promise to never do porn or hard drugs.

Watched the Q tribute which was good except for that Lainy cowgirl crap. Got fed up with the commercials - most were lame local ones except Gaga’s. Not sure how long we watched but we only saw Shakira get her award. Having stood right next to her, I was reminded how short she is.

I saw quite a bit. I was also overwhelmed by the commercials. Chappel Roan was good. The best new artist section/medley was really well done. The first guy did a couple of martial arts flips, one of the piano. It was fun to see Taylor give the award for Best County album to Beyonce. Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars did a not great version of the Mamas and the Papas All the leaves are Brown but they do have great voices.
I wish I was at home so I could just DVR and Fast Forward. Then it would be a really entertaining show. Did not see the end.

Just remembered that we saw The Weekend too. That was weak. The weakend.
