The Nice Guys - Greg - 11-20-2016

Russel Crowe and Ryan Gosling star as two low rent detectives in 1977 Los Angeles on the hunt for a missing woman named Amelia. This film was written and directed by Shane Black, the man who wrote Lethal Weapon and the Last Boy Scout.

This film isn't near as good as those two films. There was a lot of fun nostalgia as they tried to recreate the licentious feel of Hollywood in it's coke fueled hey day, but the story never clicks. It never got very funny. There was some nice action sequences. There was some weird nods to slapstick with one call to Lou Costello.

The Queen was right to give me the eye roll when I told her we would be watching this film.

saw a movie called The Nice Guys, not The Good Guys, that sounds just like this on the plane ride over. Rather liked it for an airplane movie. I like fat Crowe better than original Crowe, and usually I disdain Gosling, and here he was a tolerable chump, 'cept for the Costello nod which didn't work at all for me. I liked the daughter angle. Decent buddy flick. Id watch a sequel....on an airplane.

This was recommended by an author I liked, so I watched it. I enjoyed it very much. Who knew Gosling could act? It was almost as good as Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.
