Weird Liquors - thatguy - 04-10-2009 Remember Rosa's by the SC Harbor? Rosa's Black Margaritas (as reverse engineered by one of the guys from work...) Black Sour Mix ------------ A shitload of limes, juiced (Odwalla sells lime juice if you can find it) Blackstrap molasses Brown sugar Balance the lime juice, the sugar and the molasses to you can taste them all. The Drink -------- 2 parts Black Sour Mix 2 parts tequila 1 part Cointreau or Triple Sec Mix in the glass (or pitcher) Add ice Add sliced orange (optional) There was another optional Mexican liquor to add to the top. Didn't catch the name, but it comes in a bottle shaped like a woman. (I don't think he was talking about Mrs. Butterworth's Maple Syrup...) Note: These aren't really black, but look more like a good molé (and were not talking guacamole!) When I have some disposable income I plan to collect the ingredients and give it a try. --tg RE: Bebidas - Drunk Monk - 06-03-2025 I'm officially hijacking this thread in the name of weird liquors (coctails are still fair game tho...always) Greg gave me a bottle of Damiana (see https://www.damiana.net/) whilst cleaning Lynch Castle and the instant I laid eyes on it, I knew it was coming to the next festival with me. ![]() Plus it's an aprodesiac! And Doc Lee, who is my partner in the Doc Lee & Gene Safety Meetings (I make a laminate every year) wasn't going to be at Cali Roots so I wasn't obligated to bring whiskey. This was perfect. And it was. Everyone fully enjoyed it. Everyone was impressed and had great fun giving their opinions of the taste. It was sweet, definitely herbal, dangerously smooth. Benzilla said he's been growing damiana and he really liked it so I traded what was left of the bottle (nearly half) for the bottle he brought (a glenfiddich 12 which was nearly full). We were both satisfied with that because as fun as it was, I don't plan on drinking more damiana. Too sweet. It gave me this idea to start drinking the weird liquors leftover in my dad's cabinet. I've started on Lakka, a Finnish cloudberry liquer. I've found the exact bottle on sale here https://www.oldspiritsandliqueurs.com/product-page/chymos-lakka-cloudberry-liqueur-finland-80s-btl-50cl ![]() I'm almost done with it after a few weeks of Tues night shots. It's sweet, kinda nasty in a fruity way. Maybe it's gone bad... RE: Bebidas - Dr. Ivor Yeti - 06-03-2025 A "Weird Booze/Cocktail" thread is a good idea. I look forward to reading about all y'alls misadventures. RE: Bebidas - Drunk Monk - 06-04-2025 Likewise. To start, I can recommend Damiana for a good bottle to bring to a party. I was thinking that someone should have a bar that specializes in beer cocktails. Here's the list so far, but I'm betting there's more:
The Guinness Shake is not good. The only one I haven't had is the Chelada which seems like it would be a misadventure. --tg RE: Weird Liquors - Drunk Monk - 06-04-2025 I’ve been so tempted by a chelada. Someday I’ll muster up the machismo. I have fond memories of teaching some gals how to drink snakebites and black & tans in Beijing. I can’t remember who they were or why I was drinking with them now, but it was a good time. RE: Weird Liquors - Dr. Ivor Yeti - 06-04-2025 Grapefruit radler (groovy band from the '60's) from Stiegel is tasty. Grapefruit mimosas (smooth jazz trio, not good) are quite good. Chelada? Nada. RE: Weird Liquors - Greg - 06-05-2025 Budweiser Chelada's were very popular in my neighborhood in Los Angeles. RE: Weird Liquors - Drunk Monk - 06-05-2025 I suppose a Guinness chelada is a no go. Tecate? Dos Equis? I'm getting really motivated to try one of these. Because I'm a risk taker. And I'll do it to support the D00M4M here. It's really bugging me now that I don't remember who those gals were that I turned on in Beijing. I'm thinking it was when I filmed the Independent Lens doc. I remember ordering a Guinness, like I do, or did when I drank beer, and those gals followed suite, like Beijing gals will do. Then I could see from their expressions that the Guinness wasn't working for them, so I ordered the cider & some lager, did the mixes and they were very happy. They were cute gals so you'd think I'd remember. RE: Weird Liquors - Greg - 06-05-2025 If it wasn't on Insta, didn't happen. (before you start, I know this probably predates Insta) RE: Weird Liquors - Drunk Monk - 06-09-2025 (06-05-2025, 01:52 PM)Greg Wrote: If it wasn't on Insta, didn't happen. Yeah, that would've been '99 I think. IG is 2010. Maybe nuthin happened before 2010. That might explain a lot... |
