"First Chair,"The Hunt Club and The Suspect - John - The Queen - 03-15-2008

In the same universe as the Dismas Hardy books, but focusing on other characters. Perfectly fine junk-food reading, if you don't mind being able to figure out whodunnit fairly early in the process. I don't mind too much because watching how the hero's personal flaws tend to get in the way of them figuring things out keeps it interesting for me.

And as his characters are wise-asses, he occasionally comes up with some cute lines like, "...as the Buddhist requested when ordering a hamburger, 'Make me one with everything.'"

That is an old joke, not an original quip. Sorry. Please don't demonstrate the sound of one hand clapping on me!

it's not a hamburger, it's a hot dog - Drunk Monk - 03-17-2008

that joke just works better with a hot dog.

Yeah there's lots of old jokes in there, but the lack of originality doesn't make them less amusing.

Also, FYI, all these stories are set in the Bay Area.

There's lots of old jokes in these books, and T-shirt sayings we've all seen, but heck, despite the lack of originality in humour, it still makes for decent junk-food-reading.
