It's not ... - The Queen - 09-12-2006 ... a matter of getting off one's ass, it's a matter of there being a movie that's worth devoting extremely limited free time to see, and finding the time. Especially now that it's football season. I'm not going to blow off the Chicago Bears to go see Little Miss Sunshine, or The Wickerman or The Protector (especially not after the reviews it got here!) When that new Jack Nicholson cop/gangster movie comes out, I'll think about it. Assuming shopping for the Kedding is done. Finding time and money... - Drunk Monk - 09-15-2006 ...I hear that. Remember you don't need to pay a sitter for the dogs and cats. Any night out is doubly expensive for us. Which is why I'm totally milking this SoaP thread. #8 was definitely not the same snake as #7. I just got home from practice and was in the process of changing out of my sweaty clothes when Tara noticed the cat going nuts next to her as she ate dinner. It was #8. #8 was smaller and greyer than #7-6-5-4; that one was a classic grass snake with a deep green body and two yellow racing stripes down the back. #8 was in good shape and returned to the front yard juniper. Also worthy of note, we've taken to quoting Disney's Alice in Wonderland (a most horrid version of that beloved book) when snakes in the house plays. There's the scene where Alice pops up through the trees and disturbs a bird which cries out "SEEER-PENT!!" It's one of the only scenes that's almost accurate to the book. #9, #9, #9.... - Drunk Monk - 09-27-2006 #9 was brought in as DM was washing the dishes. DM's cub speaks enough cat to easily identify the meow of victory when the cat has made another serpent conquest. #9 was small and grey, with a bent tail. It was tossed in the front yard juniper. #9, ahh, yes, those were the daze...what a band. 10, 11, 12 - Drunk Monk - 10-18-2006 #10 was in the hall curled in a little turd shape unharmed. cat was lying nearby on the carpet in the kid's room, watching the #10 with crossed paws. DM replaced it to the juniper bush. #11 was just got it the cat door. it was a bit bent out of shape in the middle. cat gave signature meow which sounds like 'mewow' and is cat for 'i've brought you another snake. you can thank me later.' DM replaced it to the juniper bush. #12 was discovered by the kid under the piano after some suspicious behavior of the cat. mrs. DM swept it out of the house because DM was at a show. Tag 'em - The Queen - 10-18-2006 I'm thinking that you need to start tagging or banding or somehow identifying these snakes before you relocate them to the juniper bush so that you can figure out whether Kitty is constantly bringing you new gifts, or whether old gifts you've thrown out are simply being returned. but snakes shed their skins - Drunk Monk - 10-18-2006 i've been thinking about that. there are two types of snakes we get: the green ones with yellow racing stripes and the grey ones. but it occured to me that the grey ones might just be freshly molted greens. i like imagining it to be the same snake. that's more humorous. 13 & 14 - Drunk Monk - 10-20-2006 #13 was waiting for us in the middle of the living room when we got home. it wasn't moving until we placed it back into the juniper bush. mrs. dm didn't even notice it at first. they are so commonplace. #14 was in the same spot. hopefully the cat is realizing that if it is going to bring us snakes, it should leave them there, since that's not really in the house. dm wasn't a witness to this snake. mrs. dm handled it. in fact, mrs. dm wasn't going to mention it, but dm inquired about why the front light was on. it was to illuminate the juniper bush. been thinking the juniper bush isn't a good place to return the snakes. it's convenient, but perhaps the snake cannot get anywhere from there and is easily recaptured. this might support the 'same snake' theory. 15, 16, 17 - Drunk Monk - 10-22-2006 #15 was reported by dm's family yesterday as being very wriggly after dm returned from work (where he usually posts here) and was released in the usual manner. #16 was brought in yesterday evening. it was also very wriggly leading dm to beleive it was the same as #15. apparently snakes can't move on pergo - they can't get traction. so they wriggle a lot until they exhaust themselves. they're very easy to catch on pergo. now there's a pergo sell point. released in the usual manner. cat was chased around the house with a broom as punishment. #17 was a few hours ago. cat brought it all the way into the kid's room. it was docile. dm's kid and mrs. dm were up in the bunk bed reading, and dm was already asleep (yestreday's chai made him stay up all night, so he went to bed early tonight, only to wake up again now - it was great chai but dang, it's cost me two nights rest already). released to the juniper. cat was yelled at and the cat door was locked. 18 - Drunk Monk - 10-25-2006 DM was asleep, healing from a slight cold, when Mrs. DM awoke him for snake removal assistance. Groggily, DM rose to find the snake had burrowed into a thick white shag throw rug, so deep that it couldn't be seen. Mrs. DM shook the carpet, covering DM with cat hair (to which he is allergic) and making him jump thinking the snake would fly out into his face. After much carpet shaking, the snake was located and pulled out with a pen. It was tossed into the yard. The cat pursued. DM locked the cat door so the cat couldn't come in, and stumbled back to bed. sg1 & lz1 - Drunk Monk - 11-06-2006 fri nite cat comes in with what dm thinks is a pepper stuck to it's back (we have pepper plants). turns out it's sg1 - a slug about an inch and a half long. cat shakes it off right over the shag rug. dm retrives sg1 and tosses it outside. there's a slime trail that runs from cat's butt to right in between cat's shoulder blades, where sg1 was when it came in. sat morn dm's cub yells 'redbell has a lizard'. yup. lz1. the cat had been in the house napping for some time. who knows how long it had the lz1? a few hours at least. lz1 was missing a tail which is cause for some concern, although dm theorizes that said tail was long gone and not to be found in the house. lz1 is in fine shape and is tossed outside too. sat day dm & family visited the zoo. dm checked out the anaconda and thought, 'hmm, that's just the right size for a cat. or a brazilian ballerina.' 19 - Drunk Monk - 12-23-2006 It's freezing outside. There's friggin ice on my car in the mornings. Aren't snakes hibernating? Well, probably, but today we hired some yardworkers to do some weeding, leaf collecting and general yardwork. Mrs. DM had a bad feeling about them, and jedis should trust their feelings. They came late and she fired them after only two hours after they chopped down our beloved bay tree, thinking it was a weed. The tree was five feet tall and made of wood? A weed? Fortunately, Mrs. DM stopped them before they chopped down our redwoods. Anyway, they did manage to hoe up a lot of grass and must have uncovered a sleeping serpent sice the cat brought it in and left it by the piano quite proudly. Mrs DM released it behind the bamboo. We can't wait until spring. This thread will just lite up then... Friends of DM's cat? - Greg_phpbb3_import1 - 01-03-2007 Something about this picture seems very familiar. ( Including a reincarnated Hotpoint) ![]() Oh great... - cranefly - 01-03-2007 You would have to revive this topic. I mean, it's got 464 views already!
