RE: my mom - Dr. Ivor Yeti - 06-03-2020 Is she “sundowning” or is it random throughout the day? RE: my mom - King Bob - 06-03-2020 There should be a gasket under the screw where it sits on the tank, or maybe one both above and below, I can't remember. It should only cost a buck or two. RE: my mom - Drunk Monk - 06-03-2020 Yeah, I think that depends on which type you get. The only tricky part should be that the screw head on the tank side is completely rusted over. It looks like a little rust turd. I broke a chunk off by hand but I didn't want to break too much off because I didn't have the time or the part to replace it. I'll hit the hardware store before next week's visit. Living in China and India taught me a lot about Macgivering toilet repair. It's much simpler when there's a hardware store nearby. RE: my mom - Drunk Monk - 06-17-2020 (06-03-2020, 08:19 AM)Drunk Monk Wrote: This morning, there was a 911 call in my mom's court. 2 cops, fire and ambulance. It's my mom's neighbor, a couple of my mom's generation. I grew up with the son, who was like 2 years older than me, but we haven't crossed paths for like 40 years. I think the mom is wheelchair bound. They've ramped the place and I know she had a stroke many years ago. Fire and Ambulance left several minutes ago. The 2 squad cars remain. One cop took photos of the yard. Their caretaker showed up, talked to the response team, and went inside. The cops are waiting for something - coroner maybe? I'll observe for another half hour but then I must attend to my mom's grocery errands. One of my mom's neighbors told me that my old elementary school friends mom who was wheelchair bound, Joyce Vaugh, died. The response crew was there for that. My mom just talked to her widower, Paul. She said they had a 'nice chit chat' which she says for every telephone call. I was going to ask about how a death call would be 'nice' but I didn't go there. RE: my mom - Greg - 06-17-2020 I'm doing a lot of death calls this week, too. They are all awkward. RE: my mom - Drunk Monk - 06-17-2020 Indeed. i remember that with my dad's passing. My mom has certain phrases she drops when certain topics arise. 'Nice chit chat' always follows having a phone call with someone, regardless of the topic. RE: my mom - Drunk Monk - 09-03-2020 My mom's 90th is today. I wish I could take her out to a nice dinner. RE: my mom - Drunk Monk - 10-21-2020 Finally, my mom has her new hearing aids. We had an appt when the pandemic hit so we postponed, but then when it became clear that things weren't going to get back to normal soon, we went for it. It's been a long journey with a lot of haggling with insurance (copay was still $1200+) but now the TV volume is normal and she's not saying 'what?' all the time. The new hearing aids are great. Science is awesome. She better not lose them again. RE: my mom - thatguy - 10-21-2020 My mom hates hers. She says they don't fit right, so she never wears them. I got her to wear them once about a year ago and for the first time, she quieted down. She wasn't talking really loudly, rapidly, and over me. It was a huge relief (for me). i really need to get her to use them more often... --tg RE: my mom - Greg - 10-21-2020 Good luck. My father was a staunch hearing-aid denier. RE: my mom - Drunk Monk - 10-21-2020 My mom loves her hearing aids. She just loses them. That's over a half $K each time. RE: my mom - The Queen - 10-22-2020 My mom made a deal with my stepfather; if he’ll try the hearing aids, then she’ll get them too. (She doesn’t have a hearing problem — she’s just selectively ignoring him when she’s had a little too much from him.) RE: my mom - Drunk Monk - 03-28-2021 Well, the good news is that after reviewing my mom's cache of emergency paperwork, everything seems to be in order - the will, power of attorney and the health care directive are all complete, plus Neptune society information. The bad news is that she's been looping on the idea that Stacy wants to change her tax accountant to our accountant. This has never been the case. We help her with her taxes every year. Stacy does all the heavy lifting because she's much better at taxes than me. Somewhere my mom got it her mind that we're changing her accountant and has been haranguing us not to do it. She mentioned it to me maybe a dozen times the last time I saw her - and that was a short visit. She called Stacy last week about it too. This is after we both reassured her several times that we weren't changing her accountant. In fact, two weeks ago, I had dropped all her paperwork off at her accountant, something I told her then. She's starting to show some paranoid delusions. That's very troublesome. But it has been a crazy month for her with the vaxes and Tara's visit. We'll see how she is this week. RE: my mom - Drunk Monk - 09-22-2021 Feckin banks. My mom got a notification letter that the branch where she has a safe deposit box is closing. We were going to go by today but discovered it has already closed even though the final date is Nov 1. There was no option in this letter for her to call and my mom doesn't do internet, which would screw just about anyone in her generation like her. I've booked an appointment at the closest branch, and through some web research, found a help line. I'm on hold now and the operator researches this situation. RE: my mom - Greg - 09-22-2021 Well that is a big bucket of suck. |
